Im a big Joey Stan. I'm finally ready to admit it. He is possibly the most lyrically versatile and hungry MC out right now period. On top, tell me how many MCs--no, Americans--aren't duped by the fairy tale of becoming a rich and famous. Not many. You have to respect the man's wisdom:

Joe Budden is the poster boy for "Has Been" to "Will Be." He began his career as a material-obsessed commercial one-hit wonder, faded to black for years after a complete (inevitable) flop, and then arose in 2008 as possibly one of the best MCs of the year.

How? Well, when the kid woke up from the Rap Game Day Dream, he arrived hungry and sick of the garbage. He denounced Def Jam, Jay-Z, and pretty much every major label, gave up on making hits and kissing ass, and chose hard work and artistry as the route to success (this strategy will never fail, hip-hop. It's the Year of the Ox in '09, so hard work pays off).

He recently released the nearly perfect Mood Musik 3, which has caught a full album remix with the equally inventive and depressed Portishead. This one features a good 9 minutes over one of the better beats of our lifetime. Cop the full Portishead/Joe Budden mixtape available here for further proof.

Monetize Your Whip

Apparently T-Pain has scored himself a collaboration car with both Hyundai and Apple. It is equipped with: 3 Mac Minis, a Macbook, an iPhone, keyboards that slide out of the front dash, and a handful of other gadgets to help your Hyundai "Genesis" convert into the Nebulon B-Frigate. Said Hyundai CEO Robert Cosmei: "We aimed to mimic Pain as much as possible by haphazardly arranging as many unnecessary accessories as we could." The car is coming out next year.

In the meantime there are some other whips coming in '09 that have stolen from this surefire model:

1) Mos Def & Talib Kweli are Smart Car
BLACK STAR x SMART CAR x STARBUCKS

Mos and Kweli have been seen multiple times over the last few years catching up over the NY Times and a hot Mocha Grande on the Upper East Side. Starbucks and Smart Car were basically no brainers once they heard that this new car/product placement collabo was "blowing up the streets."

It features a dual espresso machine, Soy milk mini-fridge, and a hand towelette dispenser. In the CD changer of each car there is also a single copy of their new album Mos Def and Talib Kweli are Black Star Bucks, which they recorded solely for this car release. Despite being on an 11-year hiatus, it was completed in a mere 3 days of the offer.


2) Joe Budden's Demolition Derby

Since Joey couldn't score a deal with a major car company or product, he opted for the safe choice of his own destroyed derby car and a general sponsorship from The Freelancer's Union. It's definitely getting his name out there on the derby runs, especially at tiny venues filled with niche fans who know him only from the fact that he just keeps showing up and crashing into shit.


3) DJ Khaled's We're Grr-r-reat Motorcycle

This enlarged toy figurine was designed in full by FAO Schwartz, though Khaled initially hired Harley Davidson to make him a "totally the best bike with that Frosted Flakes tiger on it. He the best."

Harley, who thought that any association with Khaled was bound to topple their nearly century old business, outsourced the job to FAO Schwartz to design it-- knowing Khaled would probably never even leave the sidecar anyway. Asked what his favorite part of the motorcycle is: Khaled gave the hand horn a close second behind the flashy light thing on the handlebars.

The Green Room

Joey gets aggy and then breaks out some otherworldly verses on Green Lantern's Sirius Satelite Radio. Have a little patience through his bitching, you can step in about half way through...

This one took me a while to post cause I 've been on the fence about Joe, (I remember 7 years ago thinking this dude was wack as hell). But the buzz is heavy on Joe, including Mood Muzik 3, and I'm converted. Especially since he seems so goddamn hungry.

Ventilation is absolute FIYAH.

The Roots On Green Lantern

I'm seriously considering getting Sirius Satellite Radio just because The Green Room hosted by Green Lantern is basically the modern equivalent of Stretch & Bobbito in the 90s. The Roots showed up last night on Lantern's show and threw down six tracks from the new album with a live set, and then Black Thought ripped it on Rap City. Talk about hustle. David Banner also showed up on Green's ripped as hell (what?) and actually kicked some reasonable flow.

I still stick to my guns that Black Thought is the best MC period. Arguments accepted, I know you got em.

Wale x Curren$y x 9th Wonder

Off Wale Falorin's new potentially magical album with 9th Wonder Back To The Feature, which will feature Talib Kweli, Bun B, Joe Budden, Joell Ortiz, and others.
