Dante Ross Interviews Boogie

One of the best hip-hop journalists of the last decade, Dante Ross (Mass Appeal), sits down with Boogie, the Serbian photographer best known for his b&w work with gangs and drugs in NYC. Boogie gained commercial acclaim in 2004 after working with Nike on their W 4th basketball project, and has since published a number of award-winning books. Still, most of his work is quite dark and focuses on those less fortunate living in grave situations. He currently lives in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, but tends to shoot mostly in Bushwick and Bed-stuy.

Renaissance Rap

For some reason Q-Tip hid the best track of his new album at the end of another track (Move), and now most people cannot fully enjoy this one on it's own. With a new video for Renaissance Rap directed by Rik Cordero based loosely on The Bourne Identity, there is no reason you shouldn't have this one by itself. We chopped it up and offer it as our entree this evening, since most other heads ain't got it on their skimpy ass menus.

Who needs the old Illmatic Nas that everyone has been crying about for two decades? God gave us Jay Electronica in his place, probably so we would shut up for once.

Granted he has been strangely quiet lately, but patience, patience, he's cooking up something marvelous. He is on Jay-Z's soon-to-drop Blueprint 3, and also has his own album dropping in the fourth quarter as well. The end of 2008 is going to be banana nanas.

Paint The Town

French photographer JR has launched nearly five urban photography exhibits recently in five different countries. Each exhibit has had one thing in common: the local people, often those without a public identity, are given a face to match their environment.

The most notable recent project, Women Are Heroes, occupies nearly the entire facade of one of largest the favelas in Rio, where the gap between rich and poor is larger than anywhere else in the world. The photographs are emblazoned across the front walls on the hill, and capture the women of Rio who are victims of police violence in the favela.

The second project in Spain, Los Surcos De La Ciudad, combines photographs of some of the oldest residents with the facades of the city's oldest buildings, melding the wrinkles and cracks of the subjects with their crumbling surroundings.

Pay Jay

Pretty soon the new J Dilla album Pay Jay will be dropping, which was an album recorded in 2002 under contract with MCA. It is an unusual album for Dilla, since he doesn't do any of the beats, but rather has important producers lace the tracks he rhymes over. Included on the boards are Madlib, Pete Rock, Hi-Tek, Supa Dave West, and Kanye West.

The above video a short documentary on the album, though you really don't get much more information than how many blunts were smoked in the studio (46).

I dropped that Trucks jawn on you last week, which is the first precursor to the album other than a new one that recently released produced by Kanye.
