Soundbwoy Burial

Hov's new ode to Brooklyn gets yet another remake, this time with Smif N Wessuns 90s Brooklyn classic Sound Bwoy Bureill. Green Lantern gets it in.

Gayface & Gay-Z

According to the Christian website Love God's Way, there are a number of musicians and bands currently propagating homosexuality to children through their music. Included on this extensive laundry list are Ghostface, Jay-Z, and Lil Wanye (listed twice for good measure).

The first paragraph of the site reads:

There are multiple levels of Gay Music. Some bands are what we like to call
"Gateway Bands." They lure children in with Pop Grooves and Salacious Melodies leaving them wanting more. They’ll move on to more dangerous bands and the next thing you know you’ve got a homosexual for a child...

True that! Im not sure which of your irresponsible parents have been allowing you to view this blog regularly, but if one thing is for sure, their gaydar is at an all-time low. Best of luck with your eternal struggle for personal and sexual identity, as we serve up a song with BOTH of these guys on one track!

Santogold Is Getting That Old Money

My boys over at Attorney St. just shipped over this Santogold remix which is more than appropriate, since we both represent the L.E.S. and les artistes des New York. This is a nice preview from the new Old Money project, which will feature remixes from MIA, A-Trak, Wale, Rakim, and more current heavyhitters.

New Yorker's Map of America

New Yorkers really do think they better than you. But also deep down beneath the facade of loving the rat race we are counting the seconds to get out of dodge.

Thrillmatic

If only our rehabilitation programs in the US had this kind of artistic integrity and cooperation. You could roll to Rikers for a few years for capital murder, follow it up with a music career, maybe a little bit of acting, then retire to Boca.

Before you go on your killing spree to achieve your dreams, enjoy a little Nas remixed with Thriller:

Sade x Paul Nice

The ladies at work like to make fun of me for being a die hard Sade fan, but what can I say, I'm soft. Soft for blazing hot women with limitless musical talent.

For those of you running on pure male rap bravado, here is the compromise I offer. Paul Nice on the 1s and 2s with classic hip-hop beats meeting
Lover's Rock for the first time. I can't co-sign the entire project but this one is mad decent.

Like A Rolling Stone

One of the best Stones songs ever gets a treatment from the doctor. Last night this fired up the dancefloor with a little help from some perfect 10s in suspenders.

Re-up. Someone took this down:

M.I.A. x Wale

I will let Wale's Elitaste team do the explaining on this one, since Hova just released a remix of this two days ago and it seems strange that Wale is hitting it immediately after:

So back in June of 2007 Wale met with Jay while he was still at Def Jam. On the way out of the meeting, MIA’s “Boyz” video came on TV and Jay jokingly said to Wale, “Man I should test you with that beat” as they were walking onto the elevator. He went and recorded to it the next day ... Well, with the recent success of MIA’s “Paper Planes” thanks to the Pineapple Express trailer, Interscope is re-releasing her album with “Boyz” as a single again. Interscope asked Wale to do a remix and I guess Jay-Z and Akon did ones too. Well now that Jay’s is out we thought, hey, let’s put this out with the verse Wale recorded 3 weeks ago and a brand new verse he recorded today.

GZA x Ray Charles

The boys over at Dysposable Heroes have put together an extremely raw 12-track remix project of the GZA and Ray Charles for your auditory pleasure. Some of the beats on here are straight out of the DJ Premier 90s, with heavy cracking drums that compliment the GZA perfectly.

If you're feeling these two darts, as you should be, you can grab the entire album for free download here.

LTWX RMX

This one is for the beat fanatics.

Some super rare Flying Lotus off the remix EP Shhh!, which Lotus apparently wanted to keep quite with only 500 pressed copies. Included on the album are remixes of J Dilla, Madlib, Timbaland, and RJD2.

This one is a gem of a remix instrumental for the J Dilla / Talib Kweli / Q-Tip masterpiece Lightworking with some dope adlibs from Dilla himself. First person to send me this beat remixed with the vocals from that track gets a surprise gift, which may or not be a punching bag with Sarah Palin's face on it.

Boom Biddy Bye Bye

For some reason this just made itself apparent to me about a decade late. Lauryn Hill on the adlibs and hook, Clef and B Real exchanging some old school storytelling.

The Billprint

The new Bill Withers and Hov remix project The Billprint originally got dismissed as yet another haphazard attempt to redo Jay-Z, but then got a second chance. Good thing, because it's bananas. And nuts.

Withers on the hook something special.

Throw Stones

This week has been the madness at the Stones Throw camp. The real news came today when Stones Throw announced that they would be rereleasing Madvillainy as a box set (people still do that?) ...

And this ain't no regular box set. It's $130. And it contains a hefty collection of rare items you will be telling your kids about when you are 60. "When I was a boy, music didn't sound like Lil Wayne the crap you listen to these days..." And so on.

Oh you want something now? Fine:

These Raps Is Like Ziti

As we sit and wait for The Purple Tape 2 (mad patiently), which will at this point probably never see the light of day due to Dr Dre doing other things like making goofy big headphones, we scour the earth for remixes.

We got some nice bananas with this Raekwon / Ghostface / Caribou collabo remix, which is upper echelon.

Guns of Brooklyn

Santogold linked with the almighty Diplo to release the bananas mixtape Top Ranking this week. In the vain of M.I.A., it's an eclectic mix of reggae, electronic weirdness, hip-hop, and African sounds. Featuring Sister Nancy, Tony Matterhorn, Barrington Levy, Sir Mix-A-Lot, and Santogold herself, this is the summer anthem for 08.

In related news, M.I.A. & Santogold have been collaborating, despite the fact that M.I.A. has officially quit the music business to pursue her clothing line of African urban 80s regalia, which can be seen in a new fairly entertaining promo video here.

Blaacka blaacka.

All They Heard Was BAM, But Not BADA

Time to release some severe heat rocks off of Oh No's new remix project with Percee P. For the young guns: Oh No is Madlib's younger brother (by blood), also representing the Stones Throw camp with that Dillaesque sound, while Percee P is well, the silent grandfather of this here underground hip-hop thang.
