In the vain of the Aesop Rock x Apple x Nike running tape, The Full Clip is currently in the process of compiling a 20-track running mixtape titled The Marathon Man for the health junkies. I know you internet addicts barely leave your bedroom but here is some influence to get those hips moving.
Below is the lead single. Mixtape coming in one business day...

Lex Diamonds
While we meditate on OB4CL2, here is a clip from Raekwon's most classic interview a week before the first purple tape officially dropped. It's hard to believe that his solo career hadn't even jumped off at this point. He was fresh off 36 Chambers.
We need footage like this to remind us why we are still in frozen anticipation over an album 5 years in the making, and two albums too late. And perhaps we need some exclusives too...

Obrigado! Dilla
^ Wow.
If you were anywhere on the west coast this past weekend and didn't attend Suite For Ma Dukes - The J Dilla Tribute, shame on you. What else were you doing on a Saturday that was better than witnessing a 40-piece orchestra lead Dilla classics? Hanging with your peoples at Fatburger while Talib Kweli, De La Soul, Common, and J Rocc dedicated their talents to our generation's John Coltrane? Oh hell no.
Just look at the Mochilla video above played during the interim of J Rocc's set to witness the kind of soul that marked the event. True musicians honoring true musicians, for the love (does that concept even still exist?)
Since I wasn't there myself, and you obviously weren't either, you can catch the full rundown with Sweeney Kovar over at one of the few respectable hip-hop sites still alive, Classic Drug References.
And in the meantime and inbetween time:
Girls grab the boys, and get wild, wild, wild.

It's nice to see Mos come out of Hollywood hiding with a bit of grace for a change. Here he links with up-and-coming Somalian artist K'Naan for a jazzy joint that has an African Umi Says vibe.

Gin n' Juicy Juice
MF Doom, now known simply as DOOM (a la Common Sense -> Common), is finally breaking back into the game next month with his new album Born Like This. Today a 5-track preview of this material dropped, and though that is usually fairly exciting, it sounds like a bootleg/unmastered promo.
So we are going to avoid it altogether for the time being and hit you with some of the more rare DOOM jawns to hold you over.

Talib Kweli, BKMC
Some new Kweli that appeared on DJ Premier's radio show Hip-Hop Nation the other night.
Though Kwe seems to have been perpetually falling off for the last five years (maybe longer), this jawn sounds like a classic late-90s throwback. Add on the tight cuts and "P-p-p-p-premier" drops, and you might mistake this for a whole different decade.
TALIB KWELI - MY FAVORITE SONG
Who remembers when Premier used these same drops on New York Reality Check 101 back in '97? That album was a staple. If you don't know, NOW YOU KNOW. <- That one's a straight gift.

Miss Hill
Lauryn Hill at age 13 on Showtime At The Apollo getting initially booed, then eventually accepted after pushing through. It would be beautiful if she could elevate past this particular tough moment in her life the way she does here.
To accompany is one of her best and most overlooked songs ever.

A Tribe Called Quest / Represent, Represent
The almighty J.Period has put together a near flawless compilation/remix project of all of the classic Tribe Called Quest joints since forever, including complete new verses from Blu, Talib Kweli, Dres of Black Sheep, De La Soul, Stevie Wonder, Questlove...I can't even go on this is so jam packed with everyone and anyone who means anything to my childhood.
You already heard the De La joint which was completely off of the meat hinges, and here are two more if you still dont believe me, which by now, is fruitless:
BLU - JAZZ (TRIBE TRIBUTE REMIX)
TALIB KWELI - YOUTHFUL (TRIBE TRIBUTE REMIX)
And the entire Tribe Called Quest x J.Period mixtape.
SIDE NOTE: Speaking of Talib Kweli, I just read an interview where he confirms that he is currently in the lab with Hi-Tek working on the new Reflection Eternal album, and has nearly half of it done already. Like Catholic priests Hip-hop is feeling itelf right now...

1st Saturdays at The Brooklyn Museum
If there is anything worth doing the 1st Saturday of every month from now until the apocalypse, it is dancing your funky ace off at the Brooklyn Museum with DJ Spinna and Rich Medina. There is nothing like an art museum filled with 300 music heads sweating it up to It Takes Two with every bone in their body. This footage courtesy of my man Dallas Penn, who rolled on up opening night this weekend for James Brown and Fela Kuti night.
This is the heaviest event in NYC these days, except for the fact that The Roots recently announced regular performances at Highline Ballroom beginning in two weeks for 10 measly bones.
NY we go hard.

Ladies Love Me Like UGG Boots
For someone who puts out far too much material for his or our good, Charles Hamilton rarely misses on his beat choices. This D'angelo-esque jawn is no exception. Off the kid's upcoming aptly-titled Valentine's Day mixtape Well Isn't This Awkward. <- My V-Day plans exactly.
The "Get over here!" Mortal Kombat Scorpion sample wins intro of the year.

Christoff Niemann over at The New York Times has created a simple but perfect reproduction of NYC with legos. Im not sure what it is with LEGOS lately, but they are so hot right now.

Check out the full NYC Lego collection if you are feeling these, it's well worth the trip.

City Of God's Son
City of God’s Son is a multi-media homage to early 90s New York hip-hop, created by director and independent filmmaker Kenzo.
It is a two part project:
• The first part is a "soundscape" starring legends such Nas, Jay Z, Ghostface, Biggie Smalls, Raekwon, Samuel Jackson, Delroy Lindo, and Laurence Fishburne. The entire score--composed of original music production, classic hip-hop verses, dialogue samples, sounds from the city, and narration--is a visceral journey into the feeling of classic early hip-hop. It is more of an experimental art project than a linear album.
Kenzo recommends listening to this project uninterrupted, at night, with headphones and focus. You can download the album/soundscape (and should read up more on this fascinating project) at his website.
• The second is a visual installation coming this summer to NY's Chelsea art district. It will be a combined effort of cinema, theater, and opera. The date is as of yet undecided.

De La Soul x Tribe Called Quest
De La does a modern remake of A Tribe Called Quest's classic track Excursions for J.Period. All new verses from Pos and Dave, but still based on the original cadence and beat from Q-Tip. Much like the crying Giants fan in the video a few posts down:
"I live for this. This is my life."

Joseph Budden: Working On A Classic
Im a big Joey Stan. I'm finally ready to admit it. He is possibly the most lyrically versatile and hungry MC out right now period. On top, tell me how many MCs--no, Americans--aren't duped by the fairy tale of becoming a rich and famous. Not many. You have to respect the man's wisdom:
If I was Kanye I wouldn't have these problems...
But then I'd have Kanye's problems.
^ Lord knows Yeezy's knee deep these days, while Joey seems to be doing just fine.
JOE BUDDEN - CLASSIC
Speaking of Kanye and Joseph, we have a nice remix of Good Morning on the recent Joe Budden/Slaughterhouse beat. A little bonus for the real heads:
KANYE - GOOD MORNING (SLAUGHTERHOUSE REMIX)
And yes, you need the original too, probably one of the most lyrically strong tracks of 2008. Featuring Joe Budden, Joell Ortiz, Royce Da 5'9", and Crooked I. This is a modern classic:
SLAUGHTERHOUSE - MOVE ON

New School Need To Learn Though...
First things first: If you use a $ in your name, you are ruled out as a possible "artist" of any kind. Thems the rules. We also don't allow the use of "z" in place of "s", or the healthy mixture of caps and lowercase hip-hop/MySpace suddenly thinks is creative.
There is one cat who gets a pass, and that is Curren$y. But just barely. The kid seems young and a little bit of an act, but he has a few heat rocks that have been in heavy rotation here ever since the preview video for Blown Away dropped.
This is mainly for the innovative beat$ (I mean beatz) and the kid's flow, so forget the relatively mindless dribble. Think: party, bball warmup, gunfight preparation, etc.

EDIT: Purple Tape II Is Coming
It has been over five years since the Chef Raekwon announced his sequel to Only Built For Cuban Linx, arguably the best hip-hop album of all time.
But due to delays involving both personal and label troubles (Rae was stuck with Dr. Dre for years without results), OB4CL2 has been collecting dust. Fans have been hungry but skeptical.
Well start your engines Wu fans, because here is the first single. This one was ripped from Hot97 last night. Don't sweat the quality, it gives it a needed rough Tical quality. EDIT: We've got the good quality one up now.
If this is the caliber of OB4CL2, I'm HUNGRY.
Fuck that, STARVING. It be like blue & cream:

Drumroll Please
P.O.S. ducks bombs and bullets in his new Children Of Men-inspired video.
Independent videos on low budgets that are this creative make Rik Cordero videos shine with pretension. You don't need any women or cars, idiot, just a few explosives, a gutted factory, and some running shoes.
Representing the Rhymesayers crew founded by Atmosphere and no-nonsense rapid-fire lyricism, it is your responsibility to view and download accordingly.
P.O.S. - DRUMROLL (WE ARE THIRSTY)
The art for this album is also beyond tight.

Lupe x Mick Boogie x Remot
Rookie producer Remot has been seeing an awful lot of shine via Mick Boogie lately, making appearences on every recent remix album. He got his initial shine from his American Gangster remix project, pretty much like every other producer in 2008. Im following the kid on Twitter just waiting to be the first to say I told you so.
Track of the Month hands down.
LUPE FIASCO - I GOT A LOVE SONG (REMOT REMIX)
Bonus (wait for the beat to build until the first verse, this is bananas):
JAY-Z - IGNORANT SHIT (REMOT REMIX)
