The new Santogold x Diplo mixtape Top Ranking is finally in my greedy little paws. And it is unlike any mixtape I have heard in a long time, especially in that it's clear that some chances are actually being taken. How we like it.

I don't know if it's because I've had a few Saranac Cherry Wheats, but Icarus is possibly the best thing I have heard all year.

In the vain of M.I.A., it's an eclectic mix of reggae, electronic weirdness, hip-hop, and African sounds. Featuring Sister Nancy, Tony Matterhorn, Barrington Levy, Sir Mix-A-Lot, and Santogold herself, this is the summer anthem for 08.

In related news, M.I.A. & Santogold have been collaborating, despite the fact that M.I.A. has officially quit the music business to pursue her clothing line of African urban 80s regalia, which can be seen in a new fairly entertaining promo video here.
