Noisemakers With Q-Tip

Peter Rosenberg continues on with yet another Noisemakers series at the 92nd St Y, this time with the one and only Q-Tip. The program, if you haven't caught it yet, is basically the musical equivalent of Inside The Actors Studio.

This one in particular is a classic, just like the two before it (the first was with
DJ Premier, and the second with Questlove a few months later). Featuring good behind-the-scenes stories from Tip on the golden era, and what it meant to be a player in mid-90s hip-hop.

What Good Is An Ear Without A Q-Tip

Three years ago, when BET started these Cypher Freestyle outtakes for the Hip-Hop Awards, they filmed the whole thing outdoors at a bar behind my apartment. Since my deck was the only spot with visibility, I had a private show with probably 20 MCs for about 5 hours. Best show in history.

They've kept up these outtakes since, and the results are pretty fresh, especially when it comes to Q-Tip and K'Naan in this one.

This is really just a warmup for a new Tip track from his soon to be released album The Renaissance. This one featuring Amanda Diva and a funky break beat, perfect for the b-boys and b-girls.

Like Cold Grits Without Hot Sauce

New Q-Tip produced by J Dilla off Tip's soon to be released The Renaissance. If Kamaal is going to make a comeback, which honestly no one thinks is possible, this would be the first signs of it.

Video produced by Rik Cordero, whose mediocrity is a mystery in comparison to his growth as the top current hip-hop video producer.

All The Time, Tip

I'm not quite sure how I ever missed this, but I just got put on to Q-Tip's Abstract Innovations, which apparently has been out for about a year. Perhaps it was those two tracks premiering on Mark Ronson's show today, or maybe I'm just flat out ready for the upcoming Tribe reunion.

This is a refreshing and unexpected look from Q, and is hands down the best track he's put out in years. Straight flavor.

The Show Biz

I can't even remember, is this real? People had fun at shows? I thought it was all Mos Def shows with posturing NYC heads with bad attitudes booing people who are more creative than they are?
