The L Word

I have to somewhat regrettably retract one of my claims about freshman of the year. Though I didn't include Charles Hamilton in my previous assessment of artists who deserve shine, I'm officially bringing Charles in after listening to his new mixtape The L Word, which dropped today. This is one more creative albums I've heard in a lonnnng minute. Apologies to Esk, you ran the gamut on this brother. We owe you for this one.

Download the entire thing, and it's devotion to the L bomb, below.

T-Wayne

Ya, I know I criticized everyone and their mother and now Im putting up T-Pain and no one is going to shut up about it, but I plan on blasting this so loud all day that my only response is "I'm sorry, I can't hear you."

Yes We Can: The Obama Mixtape

Green Lantern & Russell Simmons have been cooking up this Obama mixtape for what has seemed like about a year now, and it makes sense that they waited until this pivotal moment to drop it. Guest spots from Obama that are worth the download by itself, intelligent soundbites from Hova, and on point rhymes abound. It is one long track, true mixtape style, so turn up your patience and the volume.

Featuring spots from Wale, Kweli, Busta, Styles P, Wyclef, and more. Tracklist available here. Stand up in November for change my people.

Producer's Spotlight: Dert

Before getting signed on to a recent KRS-One project, relatively unknown California producer Dert outshined damn near everyone with a remix album called Sometimes I Rhyme Slow. Built of classic material from Kweli, Common, Nas, Kanye, The Game, MF Doom, and a slew of other G.O.A.T.'s, Dert added a backdrop of sparsely beautiful samples from all-acoustic guitarist Jose Gonzalez to each track. Results like this come once a blue moon, so don't sleep.

This is a Full Clip favorite.

... And Justus For All 2.0

Last year Little Brother dropped the mixtape And Justus for All with Mick Boogie. When asked for my top 10 albums of 2007, this mixtape was #2, even after official releases. No joke. If you don't have the album you can download it for free here.

Well Little Brother is releasing this album again on June 3 as all meat no bones. There are no skits, no DJ drops, just tracks.

Here is one of the best Little Brother tracks period. It's off the Mick Boogie version and is on the new one too. A rare remix of Let it Go, featuring Mos Def and Talib Kweli.

Touche, Lupe

I've collected a good chunk of rare Lupe off of a number mixtapes you probably don't have yet. Or maybe you do. Either way this is the material that got Jay and Kanye to get him noticed and finally get him on Late Registration. Every one of these songs is album-worthy, so don't sleep.

Really I'm getting this out of my system so I can take a break from posting for 12 hours or so and have a life. And also prevent a heart attack like all these other nutcase bloggers dropping left and right. Enjoy, Full Clippers.
