Im too hungover to tell you anything except that this is hands down the best thing I have acquired in the last few months. Nas classics remixed with absolutely beautiful jazz compositions from the likes of Dilla, Benjamin Herman, The Roots, and J Rawls. This is really the direction Nas should be taking with his beat choices, more reminiscent of Illmatic than Untitled.

It's beyond easy for any of these three cats to make loud annoying bangers about cake and cars. So when Nas, Luda, and Jay take the high road and make an honest ode to hip-hop culture over a layered chunky beat, it's better than good. Nice surprise boys. Pretty classic, even on the second listen.

I don't do it for the chains and the flashing rocks,
I do it for hip-hop.

NY Oil Speaks On Nas' Untitled

Nas' most recent album Untitled received mixed reviews, was listened to briefly by most, and then disappeared from public dialogue.

Why? Because the album achieved what it set out to: create a buzz based on a controversial word, sell to the masses (particularly young urban youth), and make Nas a ton of money. This would be fine had he not chosen a word like Nigger to be his controversial keyword, then subsequently not addressed a single real issue pertaining to the title on the album. What exactly young black men walked away with from this album is unclear, though probably a new-found ability to metaphorically compare a woman to fried chicken is at the top of the list.

I knew he had no cannon fodder for this album before it even dropped. It was clear at the Grammy's he didn't know what he stood for.

NYOil has been the only real MC willing to stand up to Nas on this. This cat is our generation's KRS-One...

Letter To The King

New Game and Nas produced by The Full Clip favorite Hi-Tek. Usually Hi-Tek beats for Aftermath artists sound less soulful and intricate than his previous collabos with Reflection Eternal, but this one is particularly old school. Nas rides this beat smoothly and The Game finally steps out of his name dropping to speak on Dr Martin Luther King.

This sounds like a classic to me.

Just got back from the Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival*...happily surprised to find this new Nas UK bonus track off of Untitled in my inbox. Surprisingly fresh and should be on the official release, especially since Nas makes his best point to date concerning racism on the second verse.

Queensbridge Has a Leak

Out of the blue Nas' Untitled has sprung some major leakage. About 7 tracks piled up in my inbox at once.

Here are a few to wet your appetite until you and Google make friends ... my favorite jawns of course. One produced by Jay Electronica which is as unusual as it is beautiful. I kind of wish Jayo produced the whole damn thing and Nas ripped it Act I style, since Queens Get The Money is one of the best tracks of the year. Can you imagine if Jay hopped on a verse of this too?

First single off Nas' new renamed album Untitled. I guarantee you the hating on this is going to start like a brushfire in Cali in the next few days. I'm still on the fence myself, though I really can't stop listening to it right now...

Swing and a Miss

I have hesitated to put up the new Nas song "You Can Be A Nigger Too," despite my inclination to share it since you all probably want to hear it. Bluntly, I think it's garbage, and refuse to distribute it just because it's out there. The whole thing is not only unfocused and sloppy, it neglects to address the very issue (racism) that it is aimed at. And, and, that beat, jesus. Someone with some sway please tell Nas that Salaam Remi's beats are BORING US TO DEATH. We want beats and rhymes like this:
