Zinedine Zidane has unfortunately been etched in the memory of most as the player who headbutted Marco Materazzi in the 2006 World Cup. Though this was a sour way to end his actually epic career (he retired after that game), Scottish artist Douglas Gordon has revived Zidane in a most unusual way.
His new film, Zidane: A 21st Century Portrait, is a carefully crafted meditation on Zidane at a Real Madrid game in 2005, filmed with 17 hi-definition cameras, mostly silent, except for the occasional fusion of loud sounds from the crowd and the background score from Mogwai. Rather than focus on the game itself, as most people see it, the film focuses acutely on Zidane's every move for the entire 90 minutes of both the film, and the real time state of the game itself.
It is a one-of-a-kind film. Everything happens in the now, focused not on what one is saying, but purely on what they are doing. I can't say I have ever seen anything comparable. It is currently playing at BAM in Brooklyn. If you are a soccer fan, run, don't walk.

Mogwai really made this film.
Some of my friends who weren't soccer players were a little bit bored by it, but I thought it was very unique.

Ya Man I played soccer throughout college. I rarely get out anymore, though this movie made me wish I had pursued it.
