J-Rocc of the World Famous Beat Junkies is the man since the moon eclipsed the sun. He formed the Junkies with Rhettmatic way back in the early 90s (cats who have been live since then are the only people we actually like anyway), and now is doing most of his work with Stones Throw and Madlib.
There is a subtelty to the music that J-Rocc chooses and composes that takes a close ear, much like one you must have to listen to good jazz. The cuts on the beats are premeditated, the horn loops juggled just at the right moment. Check out what I mean from the Blue Note Collection recently put together by Rocc. Totally on point. Or you could watch & listen to this.
Album on the way.
